Tomáš Duda is the director of the organization FSC ČR, which represents the international organization Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in the Czech Republic. The basic idea of FSC is to support environmentally friendly, socially beneficial, and economically viable forest management, thereby helping to protect the world’s endangered and devastated forests. Forests captivated him even before he decided to study forestry engineering, which he completed at the Faculty of Forestry and Woodwork of the Mendel University in Brno. He is in charge of the forestry aspect of the organization’s activities, consulting forest managers and the wood processing industry and traders. He facilitates the preparation and revision of the Czech FSC standard, which are the rules of careful forest management that must be agreed upon by various groups with often conflicting interests, such as foresters, wood processors, environmental and social non-governmental non-profit organizations.
